Thrilled to share an article from NBC/Telemundo written by Anagilmara Vilchez from Noticias Telemundo about a wonderful exhibition titled, Celia Cruz Forever at the Tower Theater in Miami’s Little Havana. The exhibit, curated by Omer Pardillo Cid features many of her dresses, wigs, shoes, personal items and a documentary titled, Celia the Queen by Joe Cardona. We’re honoured to have a few of our images of Celia included and we are mentioned in the article. If in Miami, go to the Tower.

The United States Postal Service
The United States Postal Service has chosen a portrait by Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte (in collaboration with Tico Torres) of artist, Emilio Sanchez from their Cuba Out of Cuba series to be included on the stamp panel to celebrate the centennial and work of Emilio Sanchez (1921-1999). The Cuban-American photography team's portrait was taken in 1993 and shows Sanchez sketching at his drawing table in his New York City loft studio. The four new “Forever” stamps will be launched on 10 June 2021 and feature Sanchez’s colorful architectural lithographs and paintings: Los Toldos (1973), Ty's Place (1976), En el Souk (1972), and Untitled (Ventanita entreabierta) (1981). Sanchez explored the effects of light and shadow to emphasize the abstract geometry of his subjects and his artwork encompasses his Cuban heritage as well as his long life in New York City. Antonio Alcalá served as art director and designer for this pane of 20 stamps.

Today marks the 17th anniversary of the world’s loss of CELIA CRUZ, the legendary Queen of Cuban music.
Today marks the 17th anniversary of the world’s loss of CELIA CRUZ, the legendary Queen of Cuban music. My husband, Tico and I were given the honor and privilege to photograph Celia for 12 years. As a photographer, it is very rare, if not unique to have an individual give her soul to the camera as she did. Celia was and will forever be the voice of CUBA and we are all so fortunate to have been given the wonderful gift of that voice. Her energy and her ¡AZÚCAR! will live in our hearts for eternity. Celia, you are the light. You are so very missed.
Walter Mercado on Netflix & NPG
Congratulations to Cristina Costantini and Kareem Tabsch for their documentary, Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado on Netflix. I was commissioned by Vogue Italia to photograph Walter Mercado in 1998. This is one of the portraits from that session and it is now in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. It was a joy and honor to photograph Walter. He was gracious, kind and very generous with his time to allow me to capture him. For this portrait, I asked him to channel Greta Garbo when she says, “I want to be alone”. He did, and this is the outcome of that magical moment.

Harper’s Bazaar: 150 Years, The Greatest Moments
An image from a fashion story inspired by bas-relief sculptures, conceived and directed byRachel Feinsteinand photographed byAlexis Rodriguez-Duarte and Tico Torres
America’s first fashion magazine, Harper’s Bazaar has showcased the visions of legendary editors, photographers, and stylists and featured the works of noted writers since 1867. From its beginnings as a broadsheet aimed at the rising leisure class, the publication has since transformed into a magazine devoted to examining the lives of women through the lens of fashion. In celebration of the magazine’s 150th anniversary in 2019, Harper’s Bazaar: 150 Years captures the greats who have shaped the magazine over these decades.
Harper’s Bazaar: 150 Years includes the most iconic pieces of work from the magazine's archive: more than 150 photographs and covers and 50 text excerpts, including articles, poems, and works of fiction. Organized chronologically, the selections showcase the breadth of creativity and artistry that has been published in the pages of the magazine for more than a century and prove that Harper’s Bazaar is more than just a fashion magazine.
Smithsonian Museum's Latest Acquisitions Reflect a Diverse America
For the past 50 years, the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington has been telling America’s story with images of people who helped shape the history and culture of the United States.
Telling America’s story
Each November, the Gallery selects a number of portraits to add to its collection. This year, it added 28 more pictures in an effort to tell a more diverse and complete story of American society.
While the display features well-known personalities such as former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, it also sheds light on some lesser-known “hidden figures.”
Ann Shumard, senior curator of photographs at the Gallery, said this year's selections represent a wide range of fields in a variety of formats, “ranging from paintings to prints to photographs to sculpture. It's really quite a wonderful panoply of objects.”
